 Machu Picchu
is one of the World's top mystery sites. A complex of ancient ruins
located over 2.300 meters high on top of a steep mountain the
Peruvian Andes.Built by Incas, the hidden city of Machu Picchu was
never discovered by the Spanish conquistadores, which have raided
the whole Inca Empire, inflicting massive damage on the indigenous
Andean culture.This city remained hidden from human eyes until
American historian, Hiram Bingham accidentally came across it in
1911.Today, almost fully preserved, this lost city of the Incas
remains the most important heritage left to us by the Inca
civilization.In December 1908, Bingham attended the First Pan-American
Scientific Congress in Santiago, Chile. It was there that he decided
to follow the old Spanish trade route from Buenos Aires to Lima, and
it was to that end that he traveled to Lima and hence to Cusco.In
Cusco Bingham made the acquaintance of one J.J. Nunez, then prefect
of the Apurimac region, who invited him on the arduous trip to the
ruins of Choquekirau, thought at the time to be the site of
Vilcabamba, the much sought "last resting place of the Incas."

Transportation
To get to
Machu Picchu you must travel direct by train from Cusco to
Aguas Calientes town and from there, you will have to take a bus
provided by the six different agencies which cover the route up to
the citadel that comes and goes with no schedule starting from
6:30am until 5:30pm.Peru Rail is the name of the railroad Company
and offers a variety of services to Machu Picchu, from San Pedro
